GM Food Testing Results!

 After applying the DNA of our sample foods into the gel and using gel electrophoresis, we wait to see the results. We find that the orange we tested was in fact a GM food.

The end results took a while to incubate, however our results were great when the bacteria finally matured.

GM Testing Introduction!!

GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. GMOs are forbidden in some European countries, but widely sold in the United States of America. One popular class of GM crops has a gene from the soil bacterium Bacillus Thuringiensis (Bt), put in the borers, common pests on corn. Farmers that plant Bt crops do not have to apply the pesticides because the plants are producing toxic proteins in their cells. GMOs can also include crops with herbicide-resistant delayed for fruit ripening, fungi resistant, drought resistant, have increased crop count, and/or bear improved crops. The controversy is that the food may improve nutrition, may create a surplus of food, and may helped meds/drugs. However, there may be food allergies to the chemicals, monoculture, and uproar about tinkering with evolution.
In this lab, we will be checking certain foods to see if they are GM foods. HYPOTHSIS: I think most of the food today will be Gm foods.
